Hallway / Stairway

This area of a house can really shrink if pictures are hung gallery style. Halls should be flowing without obstacles and visually pleasing

Really Clean

  • Floors, walls and baseboards
  • Light switches and fixtures
  • Windows and doors until sparkling
  • Finger prints from the walls and corners

Remove or Store

  • All knick knacks, collections and personal items
  • All unnecessary items on tables
  • All signs of pets, including water dishes and toys
  • Plastic runners and rugs
  • Family photos
  • Extra TVs, radios and electronics
  • Boots and shoes
  • Closets – pack away non-seasonal clothes – shelves as empty as possible

Replace or Repair

  • All doors that do not swing/slide smoothly
  • Light fixtures that do not work, are dated or are too small
  • Tiling and flooring which is loose or missing
  • Trim or edging that may be damaged
  • Paint. Check for chips throughout

Review & Detail

  • Be sure nothing impedes traffic flow
  • Cluttered spaces make buyers feel off balance and uncomfortable especially in hallways and foyers. Having clear path and sight lines allows buyers to focus on the home and not where they are walking
  • Closets. Hang all coats the same way on wooden hangers, and use baskets for shelf storage.
